On 5th December 2018, at The Dorchester in London, eight of the country’s top female entrepreneurs were announced as winners of the 2018 NatWest everywoman Awards.

Engineering geologist, Roni Savage, picked up the Athena Award, as an inspirational woman who has run her business for six to nine years.

Roni is a rare female BAME Entrepreneurial Engineer, who founded Jomas Associates Ltd, in 2009. Jomas undertake geotechnical engineering and land contamination assessments, including site investigations, enabling the reclamation of many brownfield sites across the UK.

Serving the construction industry where only approximately 10% of the workforce is female, Roni has smashed many stereotypes, taking Jomas to a £2m turnover in 2017.

Roni has picked up a number of awards this year, including being named Black British Business of the Year, Precious Awards Entrepreneur of the year 2018, Venus Awards Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 and Best Business Woman in STEM.

These accolades are a testament of the hard work she puts into running her engineering company, supported by the tools she picked up during the GOLDMAN Sachs 10,000 Small Business Programme, which she took in 2017. Roni and her team strive to provide a high level of service to their construction industry clients.

JOMAS also won Precious Awards SME Business of the year, and Construction Enquirer Best Consultant to Work For. Jomas were named Top 10 Suppliers to the Construction Industry in 2018.

Roni said: “I am extremely pleased with the accolades awarded to me and Jomas this year. Im really excited as this opportunity gives me a larger platform to act as a role model to others. I’m keen to do my bit in creating a more diverse and inclusive environment in the engineering and construction industry”.
